Who is this surgery for?
Dimple creation surgery is suitable for both males and females who desire natural-looking cheek dimples to enhance facial aesthetics and smile dynamics.
How is the procedure performed?
It is a minor procedure done under local anesthesia. A small punch is made inside the oral mucosa (inside the cheek), so there is no external scar. The dimple can be created at the desired location, most commonly in the mid-pupillary region where natural dimples occur, but it can be customized as per the patient’s facial preference and anatomy. Operating time mostly in an hour.
What technique do you use?
I use a non-absorbable suture to anchor the cheek skin to the underlying muscle, creating a well-defined and controlled dimple.
Will the dimple look natural immediately?
Initially, the dimple remains static for around 3 months, meaning it may be visible even at rest and can look slightly artificial in the early healing phase. This is expected.
When does it become natural and dynamic?
After about 3 months, the dimple gradually becomes dynamic and appears more natural, especially during smiling and facial expressions.
Is the result permanent?
Yes, the results are generally long-lasting and the dimple becomes a part of your natural smile over time.
Can dimple surgery be reversed?
Technically, reversal is possible, but it is surgically difficult to completely reverse a created dimple. Even after release of the suture, a mild indentation or fibrosis may persist, and the cheek may not return exactly to its original pre-surgery state. Hence, proper planning and precise placement before surgery are extremely important.
Is there any scar or downtime?
There are no visible external scars as the procedure is performed from inside the mouth. Recovery is quick, with minimal swelling and patients can usually resume routine activities within a short period.
